ARCHITECTURE X FASHION
In the world of fashion designers often use Architecture as a source of inspiration for their garments, just like architects can get inspired by Fashion. See how this worked out for the exterior-design of this 1000m2 clothing store.
The facade for this building is designed on the base of three elements: completely closed, semi-open and completely transparent. Elements which are also used as design-principles within the field of Fashion. The layout and shape of the facade respond to the solar orientation and the building's urban context. At the same time it also reminds of the shape of a dress that folds around the building volume.
Slatted dress
In this variant, the counter-shape of 'the dress' that folds around the building is filled with a slatted structure. This adds a certain dynamism to the facade of the building, because the shape is experienced differently at every angle.

veiled dress
In this variant, the counter-shape of 'the dress' that folds around the building is filled with a veiled structure that generates an interesting see-through effect at night. The 'veil' is constructed of perforated steel-plates, creating a pleasent interior-atmosphere when daylight enters through it. At night this effect works the other way around because the interior-lighting shines on the surrounding building-facades in dotted shapes.
